| History of Sisters Motor Lodge |
In 1938 the Santiam Wagon Road was officially closed and the N. Santiam Highway was opened to traffic. Shortly thereafter, in 1939, Sisters Motor Lodge was built. It’s the first motor hotel to be opened in Sisters, and it’s the oldest building in Sisters still being used for the purpose for which it was built. Originally there were nine motel rooms, a home, and three motor garages. Beginning in 1993, the current owners expanded to eleven guest rooms, re-modeled and re-furbished the interiors of all the rooms, added a patio, Jacuzzi hot-tub and water feature for guests; and remodeled the interior of the home. Today, the property retains it’s historical charm, located right at the intersection of the McKenzie Scenic Highway and the N. Santiam Highway in the Sisters central business district. Sisters has become known as the Gateway to the Cascade Mountains, as well as a unique specialty shopping area, arts and crafts venue, and recreational destination.
